Scenic Hike Between Olba and Fuente de Rubielos – With a River Swim Finale!
Join us for a refreshing 12.5 km circular hike through the picturesque mountain towns of Olba and Fuente de Rubielos, nestled between 700 and 950 meters above sea level. Thanks to their elevation and the presence of the Mijares River, the area stays cooler than Valencia — making it the perfect escape for early June.
This route, part of the iconic Camino del Cid, is a favorite among our hikers, with many returning to enjoy it more than once. This time, we’ll mix things up by walking the trail in reverse, which gives the familiar path a new twist — different views, a fresh perspective, and the advantage of tackling the climb early in the cooler morning air.
What to Expect:
- We start in Olba, ascending a steep but rewarding trail to the Olba Canyon ridge, where you’ll be treated to spectacular panoramic views.
- After about 2 km along the ridge, we enter a shaded forest trail, providing a peaceful and cool stretch of the walk.
- We emerge in the charming village of Fuente de Rubielos, known for its historic stone buildings, numerous fountains, and tranquil atmosphere. Here we’ll enjoy a relaxed lunch in one of its inviting plazas.
- The return journey takes us down a different forested valley, passing through a scenic gorge and the abandoned village of Las Ramones, before arriving back at the Rio Mijares.
- To top it all off, we’ll cool off with a swim in the river and enjoy a well-earned drink in the village.
