Explore the Majestic Ruins of Castillo de Chirel + Swim at Hidden Waterfalls

Join us for an unforgettable day of history, hiking, and wild swimming! Our adventure begins at Castillo de Chirel, widely regarded as the most breathtaking ruined castle in the Valencian Community. Perched high above the river valley near Cortes de Pallás, this dramatic fortress offers jaw-dropping views over the turquoise waters of the reservoir below.
We’ll take the most direct hiking route—just 3 km with a 100-meter ascent—making it accessible while still rewarding. The path winds through stunning natural landscapes, and the panoramic vistas from the castle are nothing short of spectacular. Once at the top, we’ll enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch in the cool shade of the castle ruins, surrounded by history and nature.

After lunch, we’ll take a short drive (less than 10 minutes) to a hidden gem: Charcas de Rai—often considered the best wild swimming spot in the region. A short downhill walk brings us to this secret oasis of two crystal-clear pools and cascading waterfalls, perfect for a refreshing dip in a magical setting. The remote location keeps crowds away, so you can truly connect with nature.

We’ll finish the day with a well-earned drink in the charming nearby town of Macastre, Have a look at this short video of the last time we did the trip

Bocairent, Covetes dels Moros & Pou Clar — A Perfect Summer Day Trip from Valencia

Escape the city for a spectacular day in the Valencian countryside, combining history, adventure, mountain scenery and a refreshing swim in crystal-clear natural pools.

Our day begins with a visit to the beautiful historic town of Bocairent, followed by a guided tour of the fascinating Covetes dels Moros — tiny caves carved into the cliff face, believed to date back to the medieval period. These remarkable man-made chambers are one of the area’s most unusual sights.

We’ll arrive in Bocairent in time for a coffee and a little time to explore before our 11:00 a.m. guided tour of the caves. The entrance and guided tour are included in the price of your trip.

Already visited the caves? No problem! If you’d rather have more time to explore Bocairent, simply let us know at least one week before departure and we’ll refund the cave entrance fee from the price of your trip.

A beautiful mountain walk

After the caves, we’ll head into the countryside for a 6 km circular walk through the Barranco de Tarrongers, with approximately 200 metres of ascent.

This is a short walk, but the scenery is wonderfully varied. We climb to a ridge with an almost alpine feel, before descending into a lush, steep-sided valley. Here, a river winds past old ruined water mills, creating a wonderfully peaceful setting.

We’ll stop along the route to enjoy our picnic lunch and take in the scenery.

Swim in crystal-clear natural pools

To finish the day, we’ll make our way to the beautiful Pou/Pozos de Pou Clar, a series of natural pools and waterfalls surrounded by dramatic rock formations.

There’s nothing better after a walk than taking a refreshing dip in the clear, cool mountain water — so don’t forget your swimming things!

Summer Waterfall Hike & Village Lunch

This is a fantastic summer hike—and after the huge success of our first outing in early June, which sold out very quickly, we’re doing it one more time while the water is still warm enough for a swim!

We’ll begin the day with a coffee in the charming town of Whera, the starting point for our walk. From there, we set off from a picturesque old church and begin a 6 km circular hike through some beautiful and varied scenery.

Starting at the highest point, we’ll walk through fields of poppies and past atmospheric ruined farm buildings, before descending through a stunning sandstone ravine. The trail eventually brings us to the river, which we follow through the landscape until we reach the highlight of the walk: a spectacular waterfall with a deep natural pool at its base.

And yes—the best part is that there’ll be time for a refreshing swim in the pool! 🏊‍♀️💦 The perfect way to cool off after the walk and make the most of the summer weather.

After enjoying the waterfall and taking a well-earned dip, we’ll return to Whera via a more direct route.

But the day doesn’t end there! We’ll then take a short 20-minute drive to the neighbouring village of Sot de Chera, where we’ll have lunch at La Placeta, a restaurant well known and loved by the group. The restaurant is run by a New Zealand chef who has worked all over the world before falling in love with—and marrying—a local girl from the village. It’s a great place to relax, eat well and finish the day together. Please note: lunch is not included in the price of the trip.

A beautiful summer walk, a spectacular waterfall, a swim in a natural pool and a great village lunch—what’s not to love? This one sold out fast last time, so don’t leave it too late!
