Hike the Mola de Segart & Discover the Mysterious Dragon of Calderona
Join us on an unforgettable day out exploring one of the most iconic hikes in the Sierra Calderona Natural Park — the stunning Mola de Segart, affectionately known as “The Mola.” This striking 600-meter-high peak, shaped like a jagged tooth, towers above the town of Sagunto and offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the region.
We’ll combine this exhilarating walk with a visit to one of the area’s most curious and surreal sights: the Dragon of Calderona. Just a 45-minute drive away, this bizarre and beautiful building was originally created as an art gallery in 2005 but was tragically destroyed by fire in 2014. Since then, a collective of visionary artists has reclaimed and reimagined it as a working studio. While we won’t be entering the building, the fantasy-like exterior alone is worth the visit — perfect for photos and sparking the imagination.
After our visit, we’ll enjoy a relaxing coffee stop in the charming village of Gilet, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere before heading to the trailhead.
The hike itself is moderate level, about 10 kilometers in total with a 450-meter ascent. The final stretch to the summit is a bit steep, but the 360º views from the top are absolutely worth the effort.
This is a unique mix of natural beauty, quirky architecture, and local charm — perfect for adventure seekers, art lovers, and anyone looking to experience something different in the Valencian countryside.
