At 1812meters Penyagolosa is the highest peak in the Valencian Community with spectacular views particularly in February when we will be looking out at the snow covered mountains of Teruel
People do do it as a day trip from Valencia but it is a lot of driving for a day trip and it is also a bit of a waste because there are several other great walks in the area so we are going to spend a weekend there
Day 1
We will depart from Valencia at 14.00 on Friday afternoon and drive to the pretty town of Lucena del Cid which will be our home for 2 nights. The days are a bit longer at the end of February so this will give us the opportunity to do the fluvial walk los Molinas de Lucena del Cid which starts in the town itself. It is an 11 km fluvial walk.
Day 2
There are several ways to reach the summit of Penyagolosa but the most popular route which is the one we shall be doing starts not a difficult hike. The starting point of the walk is 1200 meters above sea level and the peak is 1812 meters and the route is 9km return. The views from the top are spectacular views especially in the winter.
Day 3
We are going to do another fluvial route starting in the beautiful village, Villahermosa del Rio (appropriately named) along the Rio Carbo to the Rio Carbo Waterfall, the route is 12km return before enjoying a post walk drink and driving back to Valencia
Note accommodation is in a 5 bedroom Casa Rural, Casa Beltran you should organise a room mate, there is no single room option
